Experience the Fusion of Sport, Art, and Design: A Unique Football Journey in New York
The Genesis of an Immersive Football Experience
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup drawing global attention, New York City has emerged as a focal point for football enthusiasts. To meet this growing interest, Crosby Studios, in collaboration with the cultural platform Home of Football and the art collective Air Afrique, has unveiled an engaging pop-up exhibition. This interactive space, titled 'Home of Football: Home & Away', is crafted to provide a fresh perspective on the sport's profound and lasting legacy, intertwining its narrative with design and art.
Redefining Football Memorabilia Through a Modern Lens
Crosby Studios, under the visionary leadership of Harry Nuriev, is renowned for its transformative approach to spatial design, evident in projects ranging from high-end retail flagships to Parisian espresso bars. Situated at High Line Nine in New York's Chelsea Gallery District, this new exhibition is a testament to Nuriev's distinctive style. Organized into six thematic chapters, the showcase meticulously explores how the realms of sport, art, design, and fashion converge and influence one another.
An Architectural Vision: The Aesthetics of the Game
What sets this exhibition apart is its unique architectural perspective. Nuriev's design lens shapes a space that is both graphically striking and acoustically rich, amplifying the impact of the displays. The dominant color palette, featuring various shades of mint green, evokes the vivid imagery of a football pitch. Integrated circular and curved elements throughout the space subtly reference the form of a football and the distinctive markings on a playing field, symbolizing motion, community, and the spirit of play.
A Treasure Trove of Football History and Heritage
The exhibition's memorabilia, meticulously selected and curated by Air Afrique, features iconic items such as Pelé's 1958 Brazil World Cup jersey and artifacts from Ronaldo's triumphant 2002 World Cup campaign. The collection proudly displays over 60 match-worn jerseys, a selection of prestigious trophies, and evocative photographs capturing pivotal moments in football history.
Beyond the Exhibit: The Crosby Shop and Culinary Delights
Complementing the historical displays, the exhibition introduces The Crosby Shop, a novel retail concept curated by Nuriev himself. This platform showcases some of his preferred brands, including Baccarat, Nothing, Rizzoli, Obayaty (a men's grooming brand), and La Terra Di Neena (an olive estate), many of which are making their U.S. debut. The shop also features Balira Coffee, a pop-up café founded by former Real Madrid star and 2014 World Cup winner Sami Khedira, who is scheduled to make special appearances.
The Transformative Power of Football Culture
Nuriev articulates the core philosophy behind the exhibit: a dynamic interplay between football, fashion, and art. He describes it as a 'cultural transformism,' an endeavor to translate the inherent energy and visual language of football into an accessible new media format. This approach is designed to captivate not only devoted football fans but also those new to the sport, inviting them to discover its rich tapestry of history and cultural significance through an engaging and artful presentation.
