Savoring History: A Culinary Journey in a Reimagined Space

From Historical Landmark to Modern Culinary Hub: The Evolution of a Rural Auditorium

The site of the Cycle&Cycle Stone-oven Bakery Restaurant is situated amidst bamboo groves and agricultural fields in the western mountainous region of Shangwang Village, Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province. This building, originally erected in the 1970s, served as a rural auditorium, uniquely tied to a specific historical event—Nixon's visit to China. Its distinct past contributes significantly to its character and identity.

A Phased Transformation: Bringing a Vision to Life

In 2022, Cycle&Cycle obtained the rights to this historical building, initiating a journey of renovation and reimagining. The initial phases of updating the building's structure and its surrounding landscape were overseen by FANAF. However, the project encountered a temporary halt due to shifts in the broader environmental context. The revitalization gained momentum in 2025 when the brand decided to convert the space into a rural stone-kiln workshop, with Tens Atelier entrusted with the interior redesign. This marked a new chapter in the building's storied existence, blending its historical roots with a fresh, culinary purpose.
