Hong Kong's Lands Department Invites Tenders for Brownfield Sites

Instructions

The Hong Kong Lands Department is launching a tender for four plots of government land. These sites are specifically aimed at brownfield operators affected by ongoing land resumption and clearance projects in the region. This initiative seeks to provide alternative operational spaces for businesses displaced by urban development.

Providing New Opportunities for Displaced Brownfield Businesses

Government Opens Land Tender for Brownfield Operators

The Lands Department has announced the availability of four government land parcels for tender. These sites, located in the North District, Yuen Long, and Tai Po, are being offered through a short-term tenancy arrangement. The primary objective is to support brownfield operators who have been displaced due to government-led land resumption and clearance exercises. The tender period extends until 19 November.

Purpose and Eligibility of the Tendered Sites

The newly available land is suitable for a variety of industrial uses, including open storage, workshops, and facilities for recovery, recycling, or reprocessing businesses. Additionally, some sites are designated for paid public car parks. The tender is open to eligible brownfield operators whose businesses were affected by land resumption and clearance activities either before or within the fourth quarter of 2028. This ensures that the support reaches those genuinely impacted by development projects.

Exclusions from the Tender Process

It is important to note that not all brownfield operators are eligible to participate in this tender. Specifically, those who have received two or more invitations for short-term tenancy following the completion of clearance exercises related to government projects are excluded. This measure aims to distribute opportunities equitably and prioritize those with the most pressing need for alternative operational spaces.
