Building on his earlier work for the airport's Lounge 2, which featured a smaller clock where Baas himself drew the hands in real-time, 'The People's Clock' elevates this artistic endeavor by highlighting the power of collective action. Instead of a single individual, 1,000 participants meticulously coordinate their movements to form the clock's hour and minute hands, while a solitary figure continuously circles the perimeter to represent the second hand. This large-scale, twelve-hour performance, filmed in an airport hangar, primarily engaged airport staff, including security personnel, baggage handlers, and cleaners, underscoring the collective spirit that keeps the airport operational. Baas emphasized the immense collaborative effort involved, stating that he knew of no other artwork where so many individuals converged to 'literally become time.'
